AquaTitan was established in 2020 to solve legacy environmental challenges by providing an innovative solution for industries producing harmful wastewater.
The mining industry was once a significant contributor to economies worldwide; however, it is now the cause of the heavy contaminants found in our waterways. Over 2,400 miles of Pennsylvanian waterways are contaminated and account for one-third (1/3) of all Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) releases in the United States, with the most common contaminants being aluminum, iron, and manganese.
Remediation efforts to minimize the metals found in the streams have been underway for many decades. Unfortunately, this is a legacy issue and many of the original polluters have moved on. Those, left to address this issue are mostly state agencies, watershed associations, and individual landowners.
AquatTitan uses an innovative wastewater treatment process, The ComTAK process, to remove 99% of aluminum and iron from contaminated wastewater streams.
As Oil and Gas production increases globally, wastewater generation increases. In most cases, the wastewater is disposed of through underground injection. This practice leaves the water inaccessible and useless. Renewing the water for other uses can be extremely beneficial to communities, especially those with limited water availability.
The ComTAK Process can be used to treat heavily contaminated metals in waste streams. The first step is catalytic oxidation, and the second step is filtration. The treated water is available for recycling prior to its discharge to the environment. The process is designed to remove divalent and heavy metals (i.e., Iron, Barium, Strontium, Calcium, Magnesium, etc.), suspended solids, organics, radionuclides, and bacteria from contaminated wastewaters.
Chemical Engineer - Wastewater Treatment Engineer
Frederick Douglas founded Cosmos Technologies, Inc. in 1998. Since that time, he has grown the company from one office in Pittsburgh, PA, to an additional four offices located in Akron, OH; Cleveland, OH; Harrisburg, PA, and Louisville, KY. Frederick received a B.S. degree in Biology from the University of the Virgin Islands and the M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the Lehigh University. Frederick has been active in the areas of engineering, wastewater treatment, water management, construction management, environmental management and innovative wastewater treatment research & development for over 40 years. Before founding Cosmos, Frederick worked as an engineer and researcher for several manufacturing firms in Pittsburgh including US Steel and AMSCO corporations. In addition to managing the overall operations of Cosmos, he led the development of an innovative wastewater treatment process for treating industrial wastewaters (acid mine drainage, oil and gas). Frederick received a United States, Australian, Chilean, Canadian, and South African patent.
Environmental, Health, and Safety Engineer
Holly Douglas has over 25 years of experience as an environmental and safety manager for various agencies and corporate entities including consulting, oil and gas, waste, and manufacturing. Holly earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Clarion University, a Master of Science degree in Safety Management from West Virginia University, and an Executive MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Her key competencies include assessments, permitting (air/water/waste), compliance, and training. She has successfully managed the permitting and ongoing compliance for Title V and minor modification air permits for several natural gas compressor stations throughout Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Additionally, she has permitted waste streams, wastewater treatment plants, and landfill expansions and closures. She has been involved with various industry groups and community groups to assess and communicate emission issues on local populations, regulatory impacts on industry, and educational challenges for local communities.
